Carob Powder is often marketed as a 'healthier' alternative to Cacao in 'chocolate products' as it contains around half of the fat of Cacao and does not contain caffeine. Carob Powder is made from Carob tree pods once they have been roasted and ground. Naturally very sweet the pods contain a sweet pulp and hard brown seeds, Carob Pods look almost like a broad bean but ripen from green to a Brown colour. In the Middle East, the sweet pods are chewed raw. Used in many vegan dishes as an alternative to Chocolate, Carob Powder can be added to any dish to substitute Cacao.
